Rotary Innisfil Unsung Hero Alert!

2014 UNSUNG HERO AWARD APPLICATION

The Rotary Club of Innisfil is planning to recognize and celebrate unsung heroes in our community.  Abraham Lincoln offered a good description of an unsung hero when he suggested, “Don’t worry when you are not recognized, but strive to be worthy of recognition.” Lincoln’s comment implies a certain type of character and a way of living life that fits well with Rotary values. In 1932, Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor developed one of the hallmarks of Rotary, our 4-Way Test, which acts as a checklist for ethical behaviour. The Test, comprised of four brief questions, is an excellent way to build respect and understanding among people.

We would like to honour two people, a youth and an adult, who reflect the 4-way principles through their community-minded actions.  If you know someone who is committed to improving our community, and who demonstrates they have the 4-way test values in mind as they make a contribution to Innisfil, we invite you to complete a nomination form so we can consider that person as a recipient of one of our unsung hero awards.

Deadline for Nominations:   March 15, 2014

Nominations emailed to:            Anne Kell:  ankeipl@gmail.com, or
Sue Gilchrist: asgilchrist@sympatico.ca

or mailed t                                       Mail to:                                               ESS Direct, 411 Huronia Road #5, Barrie, ON L4N 9B3

Judging Criteria

Service above Self is the basis for all of Rotary International’s community involvement, and we will be using this criteria, and the 4-Way Test, in order to ascertain the worthiness of the nominees of our awards.

The nominees are to be non-Rotarians and residents of, or have a business, in Innisfil. They also need to have completed at least one year of service or participation in their community service, including the year of 2013.

The 4-Way Test is…

Of the things we think, say or do…

•                                                       Is it the TRUTH?

•                                                       Is it FAIR to all concerned?

•                                                       Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?

•                                                       Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Once the winners, one youth and one adult, have been selected, they will be honoured at the Rotary Club of Innisfil’s A Celebration by the Lake Gala on April 19th, 2014.
